SOU Student Account Holds
Holds are placed on student accounts for various reasons. A collection of common holds are listed below. Select the link to view information about each hold and how to resolve them. Any questions about these or other holds may be directed to the Raider Student Services office.
Academic Advising
Code: AA
Purpose: To ensure students are meeting with their advisors and progressing toward graduation.
Prevents: Registration
To Remove: Make an appointment to meet with your Success Coordinator or Major Advisor. Only advisors can update advising plans and remove advising holds.
Internal Collections
Code: IH
Purpose: To ensure balances on accounts are not 6 months overdue.
Prevents: Registration additions.
To Remove: Pay balances that are over 6 months overdue, or, set up a payment plan with our Collections Department (studentbalances@sou.edu or 541.552.6562)
Measles
Code: MH
Purpose: To ensure compliance with Oregon law requiring students born on or after January 1, 1957 and taking at least 9 credits must show proof of immunity to rubeola (hard measles.)
Prevents: Registration
Process:
1. Complete the Vaccination Form here (must be logged in to SOU account).
2. After form completion contact SOU Raider Student Services – Email studentrecords@sou.edu – or call 541.552.6600 .
New Student Advising
Code: Av
Purpose: To ensure new students are meeting with a Student Success Coordinator to begin developing a plan towards graduation.
Prevents: Registration
To Remove: Meet with a Student Success Coordinator through Academic Advising.
Prior Balance Due
Code: IH
Purpose: To ensure repayment action is being taken on a prior balance
Prevents: Future registration and/or addition of courses to current term
To Remove: Pay prior balance in full and/or contact Student Accounts & Balances (Bursar’s Office) for necessary next steps.
New students of the 2025-2026 Academic Year and forward: $0

New students of the 2024-2025 Academic Year: $3,000
New students prior to the 2024-2025 Academic Year: $6,000
*Balance thresholds for re-entry students who have not been enrolled for a calendar year will be applicable to the academic year threshold of their return.

Student’s last name starts with A-K = Option 2
Student’s last name starts with L-Z = Option 3
Registration Address Verification Hold
Code: RA
Purpose: To update contact information for students.
Prevents: Nothing
To Remove:
- Go to Inside SOU
- Click Student Registration and tools in the Online Services column
- Under Personal Information, click “Update Addresses and Phones”
- Review current address and phone numbers
- Update or add addresses and phone numbers as necessary.
Returned Check Hold
Code: RC
Purpose: To indicate a check payment made to SOU was deemed non-negotiable by the originating bank (ex. non-sufficient funds, closed account, or incorrect banking information)
Prevents: Nothing
To Remove:
Hold will remain on the impacted account for two consecutive terms. The date the non-negotiable check is returned to SOU by the originating bank determines the timeline.
If two or more checks have been returned as non-negotiable, a check payment may no longer be accepted for the impacted account.
Revolving Charge Agreement
Code: RV
Purpose: To inform students of the terms of the SOU payment plan if they cannot afford to pay their entire tuition by the payment deadline.
Prevents: Registration
To Remove:
- Go to Inside SOU
- Click Banner Self-Service
- Click the link “Southern Oregon Univeristy Revolving Charge Account Plan”
- Go back to Banner Self-Service
- Click Continue
Significant Balance
Code: SB
Purpose: To ensure accounts are below a minimum amount owed from previous terms.
Prevents: Registration
To Remove:
New students of the 2025-2026 Academic Year and forward: $0
