Advanced Search Tips
-
- When you use In Any of these you are asking Navigate to use an OR function
- Example: If you input Fall 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2018 terms in the Enrollment Terms (In Any these) search function then search. You will be searching for all the students who were enrolled in Fall 2019, or Winter 2020, or Spring 2018. The results of the search will encompass all students enrolled in Fall 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2018.
- When you use In All of these you are asking Navigate to use an AND function
- Example: If you input Fall 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2018 terms in the Enrollment Terms (In All of these) search function then search. You will be searching for all the students enrolled in Fall 2019, and Winter 2020, and Spring 2018. The results of the search will encompass all students who have been enrolled in Fall 2019, and Winter 2020, and Spring 2018. Meaning that a student who was registered in Fall 2019, but not Spring 2018 would not show up in the resulting search.
- You can save any search after making your search then scrolling to the top of the page and clicking on Save to input the name of your saved search. You can recall any of your saved searches by clicking on the drop down arrow next to Saved Searches on the Advanced Search page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My Navigate Campaign isn’t working?
A: Check to make sure that the service, and location of your Campaign match your Navigate availability. You can view the location and service of your Navigate Campaign by clicking into your Campaign and looking in the Campaign Information area located on the right hand side. If your availability does not match your Campaign, set up an additional availability that matches your Campaign and go through slides 51-55 in the Basic Navigate Usage Step-by-Step Slides. If your availability does match, check your Google Calendar for any events that occur within the date and time of your Campaign. Google Calendar events that are listed as busy will prevent students from making appointments. If you are still having problems please email navigateadmin@sou.edu.
Q: The students listed in the My Assigned Students area are inaccurate.
A: Navigate receives information from Banner, so if the students listed are inaccurate, connect with whoever makes advisee assignments for your Division/Program to make any needed changes.
Q: When will faculty advisors be trained on Navigate?
A: You can train yourself by reviewing the Navigate Quick Start Guide or the Basic Navigate Usage Step-by-Step Slides. You can also contact navigateadmin@sou.edu for training.
Q: What should someone do if I experience a problem with Navigate?
A: Send a detailed email and/or screenshot of the problem to navigateadmin@sou.edu . You can also click on the help icon in the upper right-hand corner on any Navigate webpage.

Q: Is Navigate connected to Degree Works?
A: Unfortunately, Degree Works is not connected to Navigate yet, but we are working hard to make it happen.
Q: Where should advisors put notes related to students?
A: Please refer to the “Documenting Advising Notes: What note goes where?” document.
Q: What can we all do to support Navigate across campus?
A: …Finally, in every interaction you have with a student suggest that they download the Navigate Student app.
Q: What if someone forgets how to use Navigate?
A: Review theNavigate Quick Start Guide or the Basic Navigate Usage Step-by-Step Slides to re-familiarize yourself. You can also email navigateadmin@sou.edu for help.
Q: Why can’t a faculty member remove an advising hold directly in Navigate?
A: Navigate pulls information from Banner, but Navigate doesn’t push information to Banner which poses a security issue. However, there are links to Banner, DegreeWorks, and SOU Cares on every student profile.
Q: Can a non-student see what’s available in the Navigate Student app?
A: Unfortunately, non-students do not have access to the app. However, a demonstration video is available in the Faculty & Staff Resources section, under the Tour of the App drop-down.

A: There is a desktop website that advisors will have access to, that can be found in the Online Services section of InsideSOU.
