Degrees & Graduation
at Southern Oregon University
Southern Oregon University students whom are graduating with a master’s degree should speak with their graduate coordinator about their specific program’s application process. Masters students who are ready to apply for graduation can follow the link below.
Diploma Name – Diploma names are based on the information provided on the degree application. Name changes must be submitted to graduation@sou.edu in order to update your degree application information. You may submit an Affidavit of Name Change prior to awarding. Any changes made after awarding will not prompt a new diploma; however, you may order one online for a fee.
Degree Information – Degree type and major(s) will be listed on diplomas. Minors and concentrations will not be included on the diploma. Double majors leading to the same degree type will be awarded as one degree/diploma. Dual degrees (any non-duplicative combination of BA/BS/etc) will be awarded as two degrees/diplomas.
Mailing – Diplomas will be ordered and mailed approximately two weeks after degree awarding. Diplomas will be sent to the diploma mailing address provided on the degree application. Any address changes should be reported to graduation@sou.edu . Student’s will be charged a $30.00 reissue fee if their diploma information is incorrect at the time of degree awarding. Our vendor will send an email to you when the diploma is en route.
*Students must be in good financial standing with the university and have no financial holds on their account in order to receive their diploma. Diplomas and transcripts cannot be released until all holds are resolved, and their account balance is under $20.00
Commencement is the celebratory graduation ceremony held once a year in June and a wonderful opportunity for you to share your accomplishments with friends and family. Students with an approved degree application on file for the current academic year, including the upcoming summer term, are eligible to participate in the ceremony.

*Make sure to apply for the correct graduation term: Graduation Term = Your last term of classes and/or when you will complete all degree requirements & coursework.
*You must apply for your degree in order to graduate.
*It is the student’s responsibility to ensure their degree requirements will be met.
*Late applications could impact degree completion & evaluation processes.
*Students must apply before May 1st to be in the Commencement program and to receive ceremony emails
*Late applications will be accepted but may affect graduation term and degree awarding.
